Buying an RV can be as big of an investment as buying a house, as many of them are fully equipped with luxurious features. Sometimes people only purchase RV's to make traveling more comfortable, but keep them parked idle for the majority of the year. If you desire to purchase an RV but have not moved forward with it due to not having any space on your property to park it, considering keeping it at a storage facility. You will then be able to enjoy the vehicle when it is needed, but not have to worry about where it is stored during the times in which it isn't used. However, there are a few things to know if you intend to keep your RV parked away from home at a storage facility.
Choose the Most Ideal Storage Facility
There are several types of RV storage units that you can choose between. For example, you can choose one that simply has a parking lot that has spaces for RV owners to reserve. There are also facilities that have parking spaces that are covered by carports to provide minimal protection from various outside elements. However, if you want to take advantage of the fullest extent of protection for your RV, choose storage that is fully covered. By opting for a fully covered unit, you will basically be able to park your RV in its own private garage space and put a lock on the door.
Properly Prepare the RV for Storage
Before parking your RV at a storage facility, be sure to properly prepare it, especially for long-term storage. For example, if there is any food left in the refrigerator, get rid of it because mold can develop and spread all over the place. You should also empty out all contains that has liquid stored in them, as you don't want the inside of the RV to become humid while it is stored away and create mold or mildew. You might also want to seal all cracks and vents that can make it easy for rodents and other pests to get into the vehicle.
Cover Your RV for Added Protection
Even if you opt for placing your RV in a unit that fully encloses it, be sure to place a cover over it to add a layer of protection. A cover can prevent dust and dirt from covering the outside of the vehicle and possibly damaging the paint. If you choose to simply park your RV in an outside space, a cover can protect it from the sun, rain, and many other elements.
